The Amazon Rainforest is one of the most faszinating places on earth - and one of the most threatened. 20% of "earth's green lung" already fell as victim to the saw and fire, even though it creates 1/5 of the world's oxygen and stores hundreds of tons of carbon dioxide! What do you think about that? What can we do against destruction? How can we save the Amazon? Are we truly helpless as normal people? Give us your thoughts and ideas!

I wish the world would give solar energy a chance. The technology is expensive at the moment but it doesn't drain the Earth like oil does.
Solar power is not efficient enough yet though (ca. 16 % by now), especially the usual solar panels (for example there is a newer and more efficient technology of mirrors focusing the sunlight, and thus the energy, onto a tube with oil which starts to boil in it). I do believe in the alternative energy sources (I mean, look at this blog), but they need more time and research. In the long run a mixture of all, so solar-, hydro-, geothermal-, wave- and windenergy, but also cogeneration, will do to replace fossil fuels. Personally I think that in cogeneration, solar-, hydro- and geothermalenergy there are the greatest potentials, but probably nuclear energy must play the biggest role in the first few years of replacement. As of course it is no long term solution though, that must pretty soon be replaced again completely. We'll see.
